Are you making excuses—or facing the truth?

We’ve all looked in the mirror and tried to justify ourselves. “I’m doing my best.” “It’s not my fault.” But deep down, we know the reflection doesn’t change by pretending. Excuses can’t heal a guilty heart or bring us near to God. They only keep us from facing the truth: we have sinned, and we need a Saviour.
Jesus told of a traveler left hurting until “a Samaritan… came to where he was… and had compassion.” (Luke 10:33) That’s a picture of Jesus. He came to where we are—broken and helpless. Because of our sin, Jesus went to the cross to take our place. Three days later He rose again, showing that for all who believe the gospel and trust His finished work, the debt is paid and new life begins.
Facing the truth before God isn’t about explaining yourself or making excuses; it’s about trusting Jesus, who already knows you and loves you. Turn from excuses and come honestly to Him. When you do, you’ll find the same compassion the Samaritan showed and even greater, because the love of Jesus reaches where no human kindness ever could.
