Bowed, Bound… and Loosed

Luke 13 introduces us to a woman who had been bent low for eighteen long years. Her condition is a striking picture of our own: bowed toward the things of earth, burdened with guilt, and bound by a power we cannot break. She “could in no wise lift up herself.” But Jesus saw her. He called her. And with a single authoritative word and a gracious touch, she was immediately straightened—and glorified God. The room that had bristled with indignation ended in worship.

We, too, need more than self-improvement; we need a Saviour whose Word carries final authority and whose work is already finished. The gospel announces that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again—so that those who come to Him are never cast out, but truly loosed.

“Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.” — Luke 13:12

If you’re weary of trying to fix what you cannot fix, take heart: the One who sees you also calls you. Come as you are—He is able to save to the uttermost all who come to God by Him.
