“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16

John’s Gospel often shows Jesus in personal conversation—Nicodemus in chapter 3, the Samaritan woman in chapter 4—because salvation is deeply personal. In this message we linger over the “25 golden words” of John 3:16 and discover four anchors for the soul:

1) The People God Loved — “the world.” Ruined by sin (Romans 5:12), our problem isn’t just global; it’s personal—seen in what we do, say, and think (Isaiah 1:6). Yet God’s love reaches into this brokenness.

2) The Person God Gave — “His only begotten Son.” The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world (1 John 4:14). He “spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all” (Romans 8:32). At the cross, Jesus bore our sins and judgment, fulfilling the Scriptures (cf. Isaiah 50:6; Romans 5:6,8).

3) The Proclamation God Declares — “whosoever believeth in Him.” The scope is universal—whosoever. The simplicity is child-like—believe. And the centre is a Person—in Him. Faith doesn’t add to Christ’s work; it receives it.

4) The Promise God Upholds — “should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This is not only a future hope but a present possession: life with God, now and forever, in Christ.
