This message centres on one urgent truth — that eternal life is found only in Jesus Christ, the One who calls us to hear His word and believe. In a world filled with competing voices and countless paths, the gospel offers a simple but life-changing invitation: to trust the finished work of Christ and follow the only way that leads from death to life.
Message One — Hearing and Believing
The Lord Jesus began with a solemn declaration: “Most assuredly, I say to you…” ( ). These are words of urgency. God Himself speaks to us with seriousness — calling us to listen. “He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
Every person will face the justice of God. The difference is whether that justice has already been satisfied through Christ’s sacrifice. On the cross, Jesus bore the punishment for sin so that judgment would not fall on those who believe. The question each of us must face is whether that finished work is enough for us.
When Justice Is Satisfied
God is perfectly just — every wrong must be accounted for. Either we bear the penalty of our own sin, or we accept that Jesus bore it in our place. The moment we believe God’s word about His Son, we pass from death to life. That is not a future hope; it is a present reality.
Hearing, Trusting, Believing
To “believe” means to trust — to take God at His word. In a world where deception and doubt are common, faith might seem hard. Yet the gospel is a simple call to trust a trustworthy Saviour. We are urged to stop ignoring God’s warnings and respond while there is still time. As Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Faith is not wishful thinking; it’s confidence that what God has said is true. Those who hear and believe are promised everlasting life — a life that begins now and continues forever.
Message Two — The Way, the Truth, and the Life
The Way That Seems Right
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12). Humanity naturally believes it can find its own path — through effort, reason, or religion. But every self-made way ends in separation from God.
Jesus’ words cut through that illusion: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” He does not simply point toward a way — He is the way. Knowing Him is knowing the path to the Father.
The Limits of Human Reason
The problem isn’t that we think — it’s that our thinking is flawed. Our nature is bent inward, corrupted by sin. We can advance technology, education, and knowledge, but none of these can change the human heart. Only the cross can.
The message of the cross may seem foolish to the world, but it is the wisdom and power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18). Through that seeming weakness — Christ crucified — God made a way for sinners to be saved.
One Way That Works for Everyone
Many philosophies and religions promise peace or purpose, yet only one way leads to life: Jesus Christ. God’s mercy is that there is any way at all, and that this one way is for everyone who believes. As Scripture says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).
Faith in Christ is not about joining a religion; it’s about trusting a person. When we come to Him by faith, our sins are forgiven, our guilt is removed, our hearts are made new, and our direction in life forever changes.
