“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem… how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!” (Luke 13:34)
Jesus speaks with aching tenderness—and unflinching clarity. Luke 13 sets out solemn contrasts: repent or perish (13:3,5), fruit or cut down (13:6–9), loosed or bound (13:10–17), enter or be shut out (13:24).
We’re all sinners (Romans 3:23), and one sin is one too many (James 2:10). Yet heaven has moved toward us: “Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:6) God is both just and the justifier of all who believe (Romans 3:26). The call is now: “Behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2) And the promise is sure: “Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37)
